About

My name is Alan Smith-Robertson and I’ve been a teacher of English as a Second Language in Spain since 1994. I am currently working in an “Escuela Oficial de Idiomas” where I have also held the position of head of department and headmaster.

I love using all kinds of music in the ESL classroom to make learning English more fun and motivating for my students, and in fact I’ve used all of the worksheets on this site in my own classes at least once (I use my favourites several times a year). I also run a youtube channel called Pop songs for ESL teachers where I publish my own songs, which are specifically written to practise the grammar and vocabulary most commonly seen in the ESL classroom. In 2023 I also started uploading my music to Spotify.

Apart from music, I’ve also been known to use magic tricks as a didactic tool… As you can see, I like to make my classes as fun and engaging as possible 🙂

I enjoy studying foreign languages; I have a C2 in Spanish, a C1 in French and Italian, a B2 in Portuguese and I’ve been studying Japanese since 2018 (but don’t ask me about my level there). If you want to contact me, you can follow me on any of my socials above.
